Ukraine independence celebrations coincide with potential US diplomatic mission

As Ukraine prepares to celebrate its 35th anniversary of independence, diplomatic efforts to address the ongoing conflict with Russia are intensifying. US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may travel to Kyiv in the coming days as part of the Trump administration's efforts to facilitate a peace agreement. While neither Washington nor Kyiv has officially confirmed the trip, the visit could coincide with the August 24 independence celebrations.

In addition to the American envoys, European Council President António Costa is expected to visit Kyiv. His presence is seen as a move by the European Union to ensure it maintains a direct role in future negotiations, preventing a scenario where peace terms are decided solely between Washington and Moscow.

In Ferrara, Italy, the Ukrainian community and local associations like Ethika are organizing a commemorative march to mark the independence anniversary. The demonstration, themed ‘A sky of peace is a shared responsibility’, serves as a call for continued international solidarity and support for Ukraine's sovereignty amidst ongoing Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure.
