Ukraine intelligence finds Nvidia AI chip in Russian S-71 missile

Ukraine’s military intelligence directorate (HUR) has identified an Nvidia Jetson Orin computing module inside the wreckage of Russia’s new S-71 Monochrome cruise missile. The S-71 is an air-launched weapon designed for use with the Su-57 stealth fighter.

The Nvidia Jetson Orin is a high-performance module capable of running neural networks for tasks such as computer vision, object detection, and autonomous decision-making. Experts suggest the module may be used for machine-vision terminal guidance, allowing the missile to identify and lock onto targets during its final approach rather than relying strictly on GPS or inertial navigation.

This discovery is part of a broader effort by HUR to catalog foreign electronic components found in Russian military hardware. The agency has identified 35 different foreign electronic components across various Russian weapon systems, including drones and ballistic missiles, sourced from countries such as the US, China, Switzerland, Japan, Germany, Taiwan, and Ireland.
