Ukraine intelligence reports loss of 43 Russian Su-34 bombers

The Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine (GUR) reports that Russia has lost 43 Su-34 strike bombers and sustained damage to seven others since the start of the full-scale invasion. This loss represents approximately one-quarter of the original fleet.

As of late October, Russia is estimated to have roughly 140 Su-34 aircraft in service, including modernized Su-34M variants. Intelligence estimates suggest that replacing the destroyed aircraft will take between two and three years, as annual production capacity is estimated at only 14 to 18 units.

Analysts note that these losses are significant due to the long production cycles, high financial costs, and specialized industrial cooperation required for replacement. Production is primarily concentrated at the Aviation Plant in Novosibirsk, but efforts face structural limits, including sanctions and restricted access to Western microelectronic components.
