Ukraine Jewish communities receive holiday aid amid drone attacks

Jewish communities in Ukraine are facing significant logistical and humanitarian challenges as they prepare for the Tishrei holidays amidst escalating drone attacks and food shortages. The Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine successfully delivered Tishrei packages to more than 50,000 households across 169 communities, as well as kits to over 1,000 Jewish soldiers on the front lines.

Distribution efforts have been complicated by an increased range of Russian FPV drones targeting civilian infrastructure and transport routes, particularly in the Kherson, Chernihiv, Dnipro, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia regions. To mitigate risks, organizations have shifted to using smaller vehicles, though a shortage of drivers and vehicles has slowed the process.

Simultaneously, Chabad’s Jewish Relief Network Ukraine (JRNU) has expanded food distribution to combat shortages caused by the destruction of food warehouses and the closure of supermarkets due to frequent air-raid alerts. These relief operations aim to prevent a humanitarian crisis among Jewish families and elderly residents during the Rosh Hashanah period.
