Ukraine launches Operation Vivaldi to block Russian advance in Donetsk

Ukrainian forces have launched ‘Operation Vivaldi’ in the Donetsk sector, an offensive aimed at slowing the Russian advance and reclaiming territory in the Donbas region. Reports indicate that the operation has allowed Ukraine to reclaim approximately 277 square kilometers of land. The maneuver has successfully created physical barriers to complicate Russian logistics and has temporarily halted assaults in certain areas, specifically near Lyman where troops have reached Yampolivka.

Despite these gains, the tactical situation remains volatile. While the operation has stabilized some northern fronts, Russian military pressure is shifting toward the southern sector, targeting Dobropillia and areas leading toward Zaporizhzhia. Some analysts warn that the operation faces risks of a collapse on the left flank, as Russian forces continue to push through the Novospaske-Novotroits’ke-Lidyne triangle and move closer to Ukrainian command rear areas.

To sustain the momentum, Ukrainian commanders have transferred replacement personnel and battalions to reinforce key units, such as the 3rd Army Corps. Western military strategists suggest that while the operation is obstructing Russian plans to capture Slovyansk, the Russian military is actively redistributing resources to find new avenues of penetration.
