Ukraine oncology research continues despite wartime challenges
Oncologist Yuliia Novytska from the Dobrobut Oncology Center in Kyiv reports that while the war in Ukraine has severely disrupted medical services, oncological research continues. Although many clinical studies were suspended or interrupted following the start of the full-scale invasion, new studies have been initiated and registered.
Novytska highlighted several critical challenges facing cancer patients, including attacks on healthcare facilities like the Okhmatdyt pediatric hospital. The closure of airports has also impeded the distribution of essential medicines and medical equipment. Furthermore, attacks on energy infrastructure have led to electricity shortages, forcing many hospitals to rely on emergency generators to maintain care.
