Ukraine Opens First Honorary Consulate in Cluj‑Napoca, Romania

The governments of Ukraine and Romania have signed an agreement to establish Ukraine’s first honorary consulate in the Transylvanian city of Cluj‑Napoca. Entrepreneur Vasile Serioja Ruscovan, a Romanian citizen of the historic Maramureș Ukrainian community, was appointed honorary consul. The consular jurisdiction covers the Romanian counties of Arad, Brașov, Cluj, Maramureș and Timiș.

The office is intended to deepen bilateral economic, cultural and institutional cooperation, assist Ukrainian citizens residing in the region, and continue humanitarian support for those displaced by the war. Ukrainian ambassador Ihor Prokopcsuk highlighted the consulate as a new tool for strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
