Donetsk region: Ukraine orders mandatory evacuations in Kramatorsk and Sloviansk

Ukrainian authorities have issued a mandatory evacuation order for all families with children residing in the Kramatorsk and Sloviansk metropolitan areas. Donetsk regional governor Vadym Filashkin announced the expansion of the evacuation zone on Thursday, citing a rapidly deteriorating security situation caused by daily Russian attacks on residential neighborhoods, civilian transport, and public gathering spaces.

Kramatorsk and Sloviansk represent the last major urban centers in the Donetsk region still under Ukrainian control. Russian military forces are currently positioned between five and fifteen kilometers from the outskirts of these cities. The escalation follows recent strikes in Kramatorsk that resulted in civilian casualties and property damage.

As of mid-October, regional officials reported that approximately 3,000 children lived in the Ukrainian-controlled parts of the Donetsk region. The evacuation operation is being conducted through a coordinated effort involving the police and the State Emergency Service to move families to safer areas within Ukraine.
