Ukraine is facing a critical shortage of interceptor missiles for its Patriot air defense systems, leaving some batteries unable to engage Russian ballistic missiles for several weeks. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukraine currently holds only about 1% of the missile reserves required to survive the winter, whereas 5% is necessary. He noted that if the United States provided 10% of its own interceptor reserves, Ukraine could effectively counter all Russian ballistic missile attacks.

The shortage is attributed to a global supply crisis, exacerbated by the high demand for these munitions in the Middle East. While discussions regarding the licensing of Patriot production in Ukraine continue, long-term manufacturing contracts are not expected before winter.

In a separate request for assistance, Ukraine has formally asked NATO for urgent demining support. The request includes specialized equipment such as EOD suits, mine detectors, remote detonation systems, and autonomous underwater vehicles to address the widespread threat of unexploded ordnance on Ukrainian territory.
