Ukraine ports face critical threat from Russian missile and drone attacks

Military analysts report that Ukraine is becoming effectively landlocked due to escalating Russian military attacks on its maritime infrastructure. The strikes, which utilize jet-powered drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles, are targeting vital ports such as Odesa that serve as essential lifelines for the nation's grain exports and domestic sustenance.

While Ukraine has intensified its own naval campaign—striking over 180 vessels and maritime targets around Crimea and in the Sea of Azov during a three-week period in July—analysts suggest Russia maintains an advantage in port infrastructure. Peter Slezkine, director of the Russia Program at the Stimson Center, noted that while Ukraine has successfully forced the Russian Black Sea fleet to pull back, the mutual attacks on port infrastructure favor Russia due to its greater number of available ports.
