Ukraine poultry producers face losses from oversupply and export barriers

Ukrainian poultry producers are facing significant economic hardship due to a combination of oversupply and disrupted export routes. According to Oleg Pendzin of the Economic Discussion Club, the current drop in egg and poultry prices is driven by an overproduction within the domestic market rather than a failure in local supply chains.

Because essential export opportunities are currently unavailable, large quantities of eggs and poultry meat that would normally be sold abroad are remaining in Ukraine. This surplus is driving down both wholesale and consumer prices. Simultaneously, Russian attacks have increased logistics costs, further straining producers who are reportedly operating at a loss.

Experts suggest that market stability will likely only return once Ukraine can resume exporting significant volumes of these goods to international markets, which would reduce the domestic surplus.
