Ukraine reclaims 176 square kilometers near Lyman in Operation Vivaldi

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' 3rd Army Corps has conducted a multi-phase counteroffensive known as ‘Operation Vivaldi’ in the Lyman region of the Donetsk Oblast. The operation, named after Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’ to signify its planned stages, has reportedly resulted in the reclamation of 176 square kilometers of territory from Russian forces.

A key component of the operation involves the intensive use of unmanned systems, including drones and remote-controlled ground robots like the RapidRanger, to conduct strikes while minimizing direct risks to Ukrainian soldiers. Additionally, advanced electronic warfare capabilities were utilized to secure air superiority and disrupt Russian communications and logistics.

Brigadier General Andrii Biletskyi reported significant Russian losses during the operation. While specific figures vary, reports indicate that over 3,000 Russian personnel were lost during the first two phases, and more than 2,000 were lost in the final stage, alongside over 250 prisoners of war. The operation aimed to break the northern wing of Russian forces attempting to encircle Ukrainian stronghold cities such as Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
