Ukraine reinforces Kyiv defenses and develops independent satellite system

Ukraine is significantly strengthening its defensive lines around Kyiv and the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant to prevent a potential Russian incursion from the north. Engineering units are installing extensive obstacles, including anti-tank ditches and up to 35 rows of barbed wire near the nuclear facility to avoid a repeat of the 2022 occupation.

Simultaneously, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that Ukraine is developing its own satellite communication system to reduce dependence on foreign providers like Starlink. The goal is to ensure independent control over military communications, particularly for drone operations and real-time battlefield management, as current services face geographic restrictions over Russian territory.

In other developments, Russian drone strikes have targeted energy and port infrastructure, including an electrical substation near Kharkiv and port facilities in the Odesa region used for military logistics.
