Russia expands drone production and North Korean military cooperation
Russia is significantly expanding its military capabilities through both domestic industrial growth and international cooperation. Internal documents from the state corporation Rosatom reveal plans to expand the Alabuga-Volokno carbon fiber factory in Tatarstan. This facility is expected to produce up to 500 additional tons of military-grade carbon fiber annually by 2029, a material essential for the construction of Geran-2 kamikaze drones. Experts suggest this capacity could support the production of approximately 28,000 additional drone hulls per year.
Simultaneously, Russia is strengthening its military ties with North Korea. Analysts report that Pyongyang has supplied over 15 million artillery shells and ballistic missiles to Moscow since mid-2023. These weapon exports are estimated to have generated more than 8.7 billion euros for North Korea by the end of 2025. Furthermore, South Korean intelligence indicates that North Korea has deployed over 16,000 soldiers to Russia since October 2024. In exchange for munitions and manpower, Russia is reportedly providing North Korea with fuel, materials, and advanced military technology.
