The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense and General Staff reported that Russian military losses reached significant levels in August 2026. According to Ukrainian data, Russia suffered 42,020 casualties (killed or wounded) during the month, continuing a trend of high monthly losses observed throughout the summer.

In addition to personnel, Ukraine reported striking 13,835 vehicles and fuel tankers. Equipment losses cited include approximately 89 tanks, 197 armored combat vehicles, and 1,827 pieces of artillery equipment. Ukrainian command stated that targeting logistics and personnel is a priority intended to increase the cost of the war for Moscow.

On the battlefield, Ukrainian forces have reported tactical progress in the Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. In the Kharkiv area, Ukrainian units have repelled Russian attacks near Odradia and maintained positions in the north. In the Donetsk region, Ukrainian forces made advances east of Sloviansk, while Russian offensives toward Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka have failed to achieve confirmed breakthroughs. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Ukrainian troops reportedly moved toward Novopavlivka.
