Ukraine reports Russian recruitment of teenagers for sabotage

Ukrainian authorities have identified a pattern of Russian recruitment targeting vulnerable teenagers to carry out sabotage operations within Ukraine. In Kremenchuk, eight individuals have been convicted of crimes against national security linked to Russia.

One such individual, Yaroslav Suzanskyi, was recruited via Telegram at age 16 with an offer of approximately $165 to set fire to a railway relay cabinet. Following this, Suzanskyi was offered roughly $1,430 to transport an explosive device. The mission was intercepted by Ukrainian intelligence agents at a library in the suburbs of Kyiv before the device could be deployed.

Officials state that many recruited youths are from impoverished backgrounds, often driven by financial desperation caused by the ongoing war and administrative failures in social support systems. Suzanskyi, now 18, is serving time in a juvenile correctional colony.
