Ukraine requests ITU to disable Russian Rassvet satellite beams
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has announced formal diplomatic steps to address the use of Russian military satellite systems over Ukrainian territory. Through Ukraine’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, an official note was submitted to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Bureau of Radiocommunication.
Ukraine is requesting that all beams of the Russian military satellite system ‘Rassvet’ be deactivated across all frequency bands within the declared service zones of Ukraine’s national territory. Sybiha stated that the use of these satellites is strictly for military purposes to support Russian combat efforts and is not intended for civilian use.
Sybiha called upon the international community and global partners to support Ukraine’s position and take necessary steps to prevent the operation of the Rassvet system not only over Ukrainian territory but also over the sovereign territories of other nations.
