Ukraine requests Polish approval for WWII exhumations

Ukraine has asked Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) for permission to carry out new exhumation searches on Polish soil related to the 1944 Sahryń massacre. Ambassador Wasyl Bodnar said the Ukrainian side expects permits for work in Łasków and hopes to receive authorisations this month so a team can be in Poland by August. The IPN confirmed it has provided procedural support for the Łasków project but has asked for additional documentation for planned work in other locations such as Przemyśl.

Bodnar noted that Ukraine already has the resources and will cooperate with Polish authorities, recalling a previous exhumation carried out last year in the village of Jureczkowa. He also responded to accusations that Kyiv blocks Polish requests, stating that Ukraine regularly grants permits for Polish exhumation projects on Ukrainian territory.
