Ukraine Holds 20 Russian Soldiers Who Surrendered Twice

The Ukrainian Coordination Staff for Prisoner Affairs announced on Telegram that twenty Russian soldiers are currently in Ukrainian custody after surrendering for a second time. The staff said the repeated surrenders demonstrate that Ukraine respects international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.

The announcement highlighted two humanitarian projects, "I Want to Live" and "I Want to Find," which aim to encourage Russian combatants to lay down arms. According to the staff, Russian commanders typically redeploy returned soldiers to the front lines. Prisoner exchanges and the return of fallen soldiers' remains remain one of the few areas of limited cooperation between Kyiv and Moscow. Since the start of the conflict, the coordination staff reports that a total of 9,613 people have been returned from Russian captivity.
