Ukraine scales up unmanned ground vehicle production for military use

Ukraine is rapidly integrating unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) into its military operations to address manpower shortages and enhance battlefield durability. In the first half of 2026, Ukraine contracted 25,000 ground robots, doubling the total from 2025. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has established a production target of 50,000 units by the end of the year.

Data from the DELTA combat system shows a sharp increase in mission frequency. Unmanned ground systems logged over 50,000 missions by June 2026, with logistics and evacuation missions specifically seeing a 122% increase compared to January. These robots are increasingly used for hazardous tasks, including reconnaissance, ammunition transport, food delivery, and the evacuation of wounded soldiers.

Military commanders note that while robots handle high-risk tasks and provide persistent monitoring without fatigue, human oversight remains essential for decision-making and responsibility. The shift marks a transition from experimental technology to a structural component of the Ukrainian Army, as robots evolve from rare platforms into more consumable combat assets.
