Ukraine submits new proposals to U.S. to advance Russia negotiations

Diplomacy has returned to the center of the Russia-Ukraine conflict as Kyiv submits new proposals to the United States in an attempt to break negotiations with Moscow. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that concrete proposals have been delivered to American negotiators, emphasizing that the U.S. could play a decisive role by strengthening Ukrainian air defenses and pressuring Russia to advance toward an agreement.

Washington appears prepared to resume its role as a primary mediator. U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to maintain contact with both Ukrainian and Russian officials to reactivate a diplomatic process that had previously stalled.

Significant obstacles remain, particularly regarding territorial sovereignty and security guarantees. While a ceasefire along current front lines is a possible scenario, such a move might only freeze the conflict without resolving the underlying political disputes. Russia continues to demand control over occupied territories, while Ukraine maintains that territory cannot be ceded as a condition for peace. Any potential agreement would also need to address long-term security, sanctions, and Ukraine's relationship with NATO.
