Ukraine targets Russian energy infrastructure in long-range strikes

Ukraine has intensified long-range strikes against Russian energy and military infrastructure, targeting facilities in regions including Tula, Voronezh, Krasnodar, Kaluga, Oryol, and Bryansk, as well as a target in the Black Sea. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated these operations are responses to Russian bombings of Ukrainian civilian areas, such as recent strikes in Kyiv and Kharkiv.

These attacks on Russian oil and gas installations have raised concerns regarding global fuel prices. While Ukraine views these strikes as essential to bringing the war back to Russian territory, the strategy has faced scrutiny from U.S. leadership, including Donald Trump, due to the resulting increase in diesel and fuel costs.

In Europe, the escalation has prompted heightened vigilance. Experts warn of a rise in hybrid warfare, including cyberattacks, sabotage, and airspace violations near NATO borders. The use of increasingly affordable and harder-to-detect drone technology is complicating regional defense protocols and increasing the risk of unintended escalation.
