Hungary begins school start support payments for 400,000 children

The Hungarian State Treasury has begun distributing the first installment of a new school start support program. Eligible families will receive a total of 100,000 HUF per child, split into two 50,000 HUF payments. The first installment is being paid out in August, while the second half will be distributed in November in the form of vouchers specifically for educational expenses.

This support is aimed at more than 400,000 children. Eligibility is restricted to specific groups, including children with special educational needs, those with chronic illnesses or disabilities, children in child protection services, and those raised by single parents who qualify for increased family allowances.

Additionally, the September family allowance is being paid out early in August to assist with the financial pressures of the upcoming school year. Because of this early disbursement, no family allowance payments will be made in September; the next scheduled payment will occur in October. The school start support is tax-free and cannot be seized by creditors.
