Ukraine unveils Koral missile system to intercept ballistic targets

Ukraine has unveiled the Koral surface-to-air missile system and its mobile launcher for the first time at the MSPO defense exhibition in Poland. The system is designed to intercept aerial targets and ballistic missiles, potentially reducing Kyiv's reliance on foreign air defense supplies.

The Koral missile is 4.8 meters long and weighs approximately 450 kilograms, featuring a 36-kilogram warhead. Its guidance system utilizes a combination of inertial navigation, radio-command updates, and an active radar-homing seeker. The launcher was demonstrated on a mobile chassis using a Czech-made Tatra truck.

Development of the Koral project began in 2016, originally intended for ship-based use, but the program has since evolved to meet the urgent needs of land-based air defense during the ongoing conflict. While the presentation marks a significant milestone in Ukraine's domestic defense capabilities, the system has not yet reached full-scale serial production.
