Zelenskyy discusses peace prospects with Trump envoys Witkoff and Kushner
On July 22, 2026 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he held a telephone conversation with two envoys appointed by former U.S. President Donald Trump – Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Zelenskyy described the call as “good and important,” saying it focused on revitalising diplomacy and moving toward a “peace with dignity” to end Russia’s invasion. Both sides pledged to keep their teams in close contact and thanked President Trump and the American people for continued support. The discussion came as U.S.–mediated talks have stalled, with Washington’s attention redirected to the conflict in Iran, and followed recent Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian logistics hubs. Zelenskyy also referenced ongoing talks with U.S. officials about licences for Patriot air‑defence interceptors, underscoring the parallel military‑aid and diplomatic tracks aimed at ending the war.
