Russia and Ukraine exchange heavy strikes amid leadership changes FAST-MOVING

Russia and Ukraine have engaged in a night of intense cross-border attacks, resulting in multiple casualties on both sides. Russian air raids in Ukraine, specifically targeting Kyiv, caused at least two deaths and a warehouse fire. In Zaporizhzhia, a Russian drone strike killed one person and injured four others. Previous strikes in Kryvyi Rih, a drone attack on a shopping center, left 16 dead and 130 injured, including 23 children.

In response, Ukrainian drone attacks targeted the Donetsk region, killing at least three people, including a teenager, and wounding 13 others. These strikes affected several locations, including Donetsk, Horlivka, and Torez.

Amidst the ongoing conflict, Ukraine is experiencing political shifts and internal debates. Following the departure of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Yevhenii Khmara as the new Defense Minister. Khmara, formerly of the SBU special forces unit Alfa, is expected to maintain a strategy focused on long-range drone strikes against Russian infrastructure. These leadership changes occur against a backdrop of domestic discussions regarding corruption and calls for political reform during the war.
