Ukraine war sees 1.5 million Russian casualties as historian warns conflict may soon end

Historian and author Peter Englund said the war in Ukraine could be approaching its end, noting the fifth year of fighting and recent escalations on both sides.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces have suffered 1,455,420 killed, wounded or missing since the full‑scale invasion began on 24 February 2022. The latest update added 1,210 Russian soldiers lost in the past 24 hours and listed extensive equipment losses, including 12,247 tanks, 25,098 armored vehicles, 47,522 artillery systems and dozens of aircraft and drones.
