Novo Hamburgo police arrest suspects in two separate violent crimes
Police in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, arrested Roger da Cruz Carriço, 29, after he stole a vehicle during a robbery of a rideshare driver and fled. During the chase the stolen car struck motorcyclist Leonardo Machado, 24, who died at the Municipal Hospital. Authorities are treating the case as latrocínio, robbery with a resulting death, and note Carriço has prior convictions for theft and receipt.
In a separate investigation, three members of a family and an accomplice were taken into custody for planning the June 10 murder of Everton Luís Klak, 31, on a rural property in Lomba Grande, Novo Hamburgo. Klak was shot in the head inside a barn. Police say the earlier claim that the property owners were held captive was staged, and the inquiry is being led by delegate Anderson Ermel.
