Ukraine's NC13 unit deploys suicide ground robots
The NC13 unit, part of Ukraine's 3rd Independent Assault Brigade, has transitioned from using unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) for logistics to deploying them as kamikaze robots. Based in northeast Ukraine, the unit produces up to 30 suicide robots per month.
These UGVs are equipped with either anti-tank mines or up to 50 kilograms of explosives and can travel distances of up to 50 kilometers. The military strategy aims to use these machines for assaults to minimize the use of infantry. One significant technical challenge reported by engineers is that fiber-optic aerial drones frequently become entangled in the wheels of these ground robots, causing them to stall in the mud.
