The United States administration is continuing talks to allow Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptor missiles despite President Donald Trump’s expressed doubts. Four sources said the options under discussion include building components in Ukraine and sending them to Germany for final assembly, adding Ukraine to the existing US‑European Patriot production programme, or permitting a cheaper version of the PAC‑3 missile.

U.S. envoy to NATO Matthew Whitaker is leading the effort and visited Kyiv in July to assess options with Ukrainian officials and weapons‑industry executives. He said no order has been given to halt the discussions, and talks are ongoing with U.S. arms makers and military officials.

Ukraine has warned it has run out of Patriot interceptors, reporting that only one of 27 Russian ballistic missiles launched on a recent day was shot down. The U.S. has indicated that a production agreement is unlikely before the winter, prioritising rapid delivery of existing Patriot systems over a long‑term production deal.

Poland’s deputy defence minister Cezary Tomczyk announced that Warsaw is ready to join the Patriot production chain and host manufacturing, citing an Ankara‑summit agreement with the United States, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden on a service centre for Patriot missiles. Trump initially pledged a licence for Ukraine to produce Patriot missiles but later retracted, citing security concerns.
