Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev Accuses German Parties of Moscow Influence
Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Oleksii Makeiev said that some German parties on both the right and the left receive regular instructions from Moscow and criticised contacts with the Kremlin as well as cooperation with the Russian state nuclear company Rosatom.
He singled out the far‑right Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the left‑wing BSW (Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht) as examples. CDU parliamentary spokesperson Jürgen Hardt said voters must ask whether parties work for Germany’s enemies, while Green security spokesperson Sara Nanni said the ambassador’s claim has substance. BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht rejected the accusation as excessive.
Makeiev called for evidence, noting that without proof the allegations remain a political dispute. The episode underscores concerns about Russian influence in European politics and its possible impact on NATO unity and support for Ukraine.
