Ukrainian Antonov An-124 cargo plane reports fire during landing in Japan

An Antonov Airlines An-124-100 Ruslan cargo aircraft reportedly experienced a fire during its landing at Chubu Centrair International Airport in Japan on the night of October 22. Air traffic controllers observed what appeared to be flames near the tires and engine as the aircraft approached the runway around 19:20 local time.

The incident caused a temporary closure of the runway for approximately 15 minutes, from 19:22 to 19:37 local time. The aircraft taxied to its parking stand under its own power, and no injuries were reported. While Japanese media outlets reported seeing flames, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism stated that airport fire crews could not confirm a fire at the scene.

Flight monitoring data indicates the aircraft had previously operated from Leipzig, Germany, and arrived from Fairbanks, Alaska. The Japanese transport ministry is currently investigating the cause of the incident. Antonov Airlines has not yet issued a formal comment regarding the situation.
