Ukrainian national detained for illegal entry into Northern Cyprus military zone
On 23 July 2026 a Ukrainian citizen identified only as D. B entered the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by violating a first‑degree military prohibited area. Police records show he had previously been expelled from the TRNC on 14 November 2025 for alleged shop‑opening, extortion and intentional damage.
During a routine immigration check on 25 July 2026, police officer Mehmet Tekin discovered that D. B had no identification or passport and had crossed into the restricted zone on foot from the Ayia Napa area, though he could not recall the exact entry point. He was arrested, and Judge Tutku Candaş ordered three days of police custody while the investigation continues. The case is being coordinated with the Police General Directorate’s Immigration Department.
The detainee is to remain in custody for three days pending further legal proceedings.
