Ukrainian communities celebrate 35th independence anniversary in Spain and Portugal
Ukrainian communities in Spain and Portugal are organizing cultural events to commemorate the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence.
In Gijón, Asturias, the community will host a 'Flag Marathon' featuring a 50-meter flag brought from Ukraine. The flag will cover 12,775 meters, representing the total number of days Ukraine has been independent since 1991. The event includes a peaceful march, a traditional costume parade at the Jovellanos Theater, and multicultural festivities including folk dances and live music.
In Coimbra, Portugal, the event titled ‘The Heart of Ukraine in Coimbra’ will take place at the D. Pedro V Municipal Market. Organized by the Veracausa Association and the local Ukrainian community, the celebration aims to showcase Ukrainian history, gastronomy, and art beyond the context of the ongoing war. Activities include Petrykivka painting workshops, Motanka doll making, live cooking demonstrations, and a solidarity auction.
