Ukraine reports record Russian military losses in October

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the Russian military suffered its highest monthly losses since the start of the full-scale invasion, with 54,400 soldiers killed, wounded, or missing in October. This figure represents an increase of approximately 8,170 casualties compared to September.

Zelensky also reported that Ukraine reclaimed 96.2 square kilometers of territory in October, outperforming Russian gains of 85.8 square kilometers. On October 21, the Russian army reportedly suffered a record single-day loss of 2,250 personnel.

In a separate diplomatic development, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced that the United States will mediate trilateral technical negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on November 10–11. The discussions are expected to focus on post-war security guarantees, conflict de-escalation, and humanitarian efforts. Prior to the Abu Dhabi summit, U.S. negotiators are scheduled to meet with representatives from the EU, NATO, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom in Brussels to discuss European security architecture and reconstruction support for Ukraine.
