Ukrainian drone operators neutralize US armored brigade in Germany exercise

During the Combined Resolve military exercise held in Germany between April and May 2026, Ukrainian drone operators from the 412th Unmanned Systems Regiment, known as Nemesis, successfully neutralized a US armored brigade. The simulation involved approximately 3,500 US personnel, primarily from the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Cavalry Division.

Reports indicate that US heavy vehicles were easily identified by reconnaissance drones because they raised large dust clouds during movement. These were followed by simulated explosive drops and FPV kamikaze drones. The effectiveness of the Ukrainian units was such that organizers had to repeatedly reintroduce new US units to the simulation to allow the exercise to continue.

Following the initial losses, US forces reportedly improved their performance by adopting better camouflage, dispersal tactics, and increased use of electronic warfare. During the exercise, Ukrainian operators also demonstrated offensive drone capabilities by switching sides to assist the US forces in learning these new tactics.
