Ukrainian F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes on Frontline, Pilot Ejects Safely

On 29 July 2026 the Ukrainian Air Force reported that an F‑16 Fighting Falcon crashed during a combat mission along the front line. The aircraft was intercepting Russian aerial targets when an in‑flight emergency forced the pilot to eject. The pilot was rescued, taken to a medical facility and is reported to be safe.

The Ukrainian authorities said no civilian casualties or property damage were recorded. The exact cause of the emergency has not been determined and is under investigation. Ukraine operates roughly 50 modernised F‑16s delivered by NATO allies such as the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway, and the loss is a notable setback as the country still awaits the delivery of the remaining pledged aircraft.

The incident was announced on the Ukrainian Air Force’s Telegram channel, and experts are examining the crash site to establish the circumstances of the loss.
