Ukrainian firm closes Calfrost frozen‑food plant in Kalisz, laying off 50
In autumn 2023 the Ukrainian frozen‑food producer Three Bears (Trzy Niedźwiedzie) bought the Calfrost plant in Kalisz, Poland. The new owner deemed the factory unprofitable and halted production, resulting in the dismissal of about 50 employees.
The site, covering roughly 3 ha, was placed on sale with an initial asking price of almost 13 million zł, later reduced to 5.8 million zł. It was eventually acquired by local entrepreneur Jan Podlasiński. Following the purchase, part of the existing buildings was demolished while the remaining structures were repurposed as warehouse space available for rent to regional businesses.
