Vienna arrests four Ukrainians on suspicion of espionage
Four Ukrainians, including two journalists from Ukrainska Pravda, were arrested in Vienna this week on suspicion of espionage, according to Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.
Among those detained were investigative journalist Mykhailo Tkach and cameraman Yaroslav Bondarenko. Tkach was released after more than 12 hours of detention, though his communication devices were reportedly not returned. Bondarenko was reportedly injured during the arrest and required medical attention.
The journalists were in Austria conducting research related to the fugitive former Ukrainian Prosecutor General, Ruslan Kravchenko. While Tkach has been released, three of the four suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. The Ukrainian Embassy in Vienna has requested official explanations from Austrian authorities regarding the legal basis and circumstances of the arrests.
