Ukrainian Major sentenced for forcing soldiers to build private villa

A Ukrainian army major in the Odessa region was arrested after investigators found that he ordered 83 soldiers to construct his private luxury villa over several months. Military trucks and building materials were diverted for the project, depriving the unit of personnel and resources needed for frontline duties.

Prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko said the case involves illegal use of state assets and abuse of office, noting that the removal of soldiers directly harms combat readiness. The major faces up to twelve years in prison if convicted.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about corruption and misuse of military personnel within Ukraine’s armed forces during the ongoing conflict.
