Ukrainian national arrested in Buriram after weapon report

A 32-year-old Ukrainian national was arrested in the Prakhon Chai municipal area of Buriram, Thailand, following reports of a weapon being displayed at a roadside restaurant.

The incident began around 8:00 p.m. on August 24, when a local subdistrict chief reported that a foreign man had allegedly shown a gun while drinking. The individual, identified as Yevhen Shvednko, fled the scene in a black BMW 740iL. Local officials tracked the vehicle and relayed its location to police, leading to the establishment of checkpoints.

Upon stopping the vehicle, officers discovered a BB gun inside the car. While a urine test returned no results for illegal drugs, a breathalyzer test confirmed the driver was operating the vehicle above the legal alcohol limit. Shvednko, who entered Thailand as a student in August 2022, was initially charged with drunk driving. Police are conducting further investigations into the circumstances of the restaurant report and the driver's background.
