Ukrainian official calls for radical UN reform

Serhii Kislytsia, the first deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine and former Ukrainian ambassador to the United Nations, has called for a radical reform of the UN. Using photographs of worn-out chairs in a central UN conference hall in New York as a metaphor, Kislytsia argued that the organization is outdated and has lost its identity.

Kislytsia stated that the UN is no longer a pillar of peace, noting that its foundations were planted by Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill at Yalta. He expressed skepticism that a future Secretary-General could restore the organization's role as long as Russia maintains its position on the Security Council. He criticized the Russian administration, claiming its presence in the Council prevents peace and continues to undermine the institution.
