Ukrainian referee alleges €10,000 bribe attempt in EuroCup final

Ukrainian international basketball referee Mykola Ambrosov has filed a formal complaint with Greek judicial authorities alleging an attempt to influence the officiating of the 2021 EuroCup final.

According to Ambrosov’s written statement, he was approached on April 27, 2021, by fellow Ukrainian referee Boris Rizik. Rizik allegedly offered Ambrosov €10,000 to intentionally make between five and eight incorrect officiating calls in favor of UNICS Kazan during their second final game against AS Monaco in Kazan, Russia.

Ambrosov claims that Rizik directed him to a Greek referee, identified by the initials H.K., to facilitate the arrangement. The referee stated that he rejected the proposal and has reported the incidents to relevant European basketball authorities. The match in question was a high-stakes game, as UNICS Kazan needed a victory to maintain their championship hopes after losing the first game.
