Ukrainian Woman Detained for Smuggling Gold Worth 1.5 million zł at Polish Border
A 46‑year‑old Ukrainian citizen attempted to bring three three‑kilogram gold bars into Poland through the Krościenko border crossing. The gold, hidden in pouches beneath her clothing, was valued at approximately 1.5 million zł. Officers of the Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa used a person‑scanner to detect the concealed bars, seized the gold and confiscated €23,400 as part of the provisional penalty. The woman now faces possible fines under Polish and EU customs regulations, which require the declaration of cash or precious metals exceeding €10,000 when crossing the EU’s external border.
The incident underscores the enforcement of customs‑tax rules at Poland’s eastern frontier and the capacity of border services to intercept high‑value illicit shipments.
