ULB reports high usage of alternative mobility among students and staff

At the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), over 90% of students and nearly two-thirds of staff members utilize alternative mobility options to reach campus. According to the 2024 Corporate Travel Plan, 70% of the university's 38,000 students rely on public transportation, while 22% travel by walking or cycling. Only 7% of students use cars for their commute.

Among the university's 6,000 staff members, 45% use public transit and 20% cycle, with car usage standing at 24.5%. These shifts in commuting habits are supported by ongoing infrastructure investments, including over 1,000 bicycle parking spaces across Brussels campuses, approximately 40% of which are secured. Reducing commuting-related travel is a key focus for the institution, as these trips account for 16% of the university's total greenhouse gas emissions.
