Ulf Kristersson defends climate policy amid voter dissatisfaction

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has responded to growing dissatisfaction regarding the government's climate policies. Following internal analyses showing the Moderate Party lost female voters due to climate concerns, Kristersson stated that “all subjects cannot be at the top of the agenda,” citing priorities such as the war in Ukraine, crime, and the economy.

Polling from 2026 indicates that 55 percent of voters believe the Tidö government has failed in its climate policy, while 59 percent are calling for more ambitious measures. Approximately 300,000 Moderate Party voters expressed dissatisfaction with current climate initiatives.

Parallel research into voter trends shows a radicalization among supporters of the Sweden Democrats. Despite Sweden reaching some of the lowest immigration levels in the EU, 97 percent of Sweden Democrat voters still demand further reductions. The report also notes increased extreme views regarding citizenship and continued high levels of distrust toward courts and established media among these voters.
