Ulleung County to receive 480.4 billion KRW for island infrastructure
The South Korean government has finalized the ‘1st Comprehensive Development Plan for Remote Outlying Islands (2026–2030)’, allocating 480.4 billion KRW to Ulleung County. This funding accounts for approximately 44% of the total national budget designated for remote island development projects.
The plan includes 21 specific projects aimed at improving living conditions and connectivity. Key infrastructure developments include the construction of Ulleung Airport and the expansion of road networks, such as the Bongrae-gil road and the Sadong–Okcheon circulation road. These measures are intended to address long-standing accessibility issues.
To improve residential environments, the plan also prioritizes essential services, including the maintenance of water and sewage systems, the expansion of waste incineration facilities, and the construction of complex emergency shelters. These efforts aim to transform Ulleungdo and Dokdo into strategic maritime hubs and sustainable residential areas rather than just tourist destinations.
