Ulm: Drunk driver crashes into concrete barrier on Neutorbrücke
A 27-year-old driver caused a significant traffic accident on the Neutorbrücke in Ulm on a Friday evening. While driving an Audi A4 Avant toward the city center, the driver collided with a concrete barrier designed to prevent oversized vehicles from crossing the bridge.
Police investigations indicate that the driver was heavily intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level exceeding one per mille, and was traveling at an inappropriate speed. The collision resulted in the Audi being nearly destroyed, with damages estimated at approximately 3,000 euros. Of the five occupants in the vehicle, four were uninjured, while one passenger in the rear seat sustained a head wound and required outpatient medical treatment.
The impact caused a four-ton concrete barrier to topple, temporarily blocking a lane of traffic. Personnel from Stadtwerke Ulm used heavy equipment to remove the barrier. The driver has had his license confiscated and a blood sample was taken for further investigation.
