Ulrich Siegmund faces criticism over remarks on arms and deportation

Ulrich Siegmund, the AfD lead candidate in Saxony-Anhalt, is facing intense criticism following remarks linking arms production to the party’s proposed ‘remigration and deportation offensive’. During a parliamentary group meeting in Magdeburg, Siegmund stated that the party does not fundamentally reject the production of armaments, suggesting that ‘aid tools’ would be required for a future deportation campaign.

The comments have sparked nationwide indignation, with critics highlighting the controversial connection between military equipment and deportation policies. In response, Siegmund has used social media to defend his position, claiming that the media has taken a ‘half-sentence’ out of context to create a negative portrayal of his views.

Siegmund, who has served in the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament since 2016, led the AfD to become the strongest force in the recent state election with approximately 44 percent of the vote.
