Ulrich Siegmund leads AfD campaign in Saxony-Anhalt

Ulrich Siegmund, a 35-year-old candidate for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, is conducting a distinctive election campaign for the position of Minister-President in Saxony-Anhalt.

Siegmund has utilized a moped convoy to reach voters, leading a procession of approximately 300 participants on Simson Schwalbe motorcycles. This choice of vehicle, a classic moped from the former East Germany, is intended to foster a sense of regional identity and connection with the local population. The campaign features the slogan “Lass uns Geschichte schreiben” (Let us write history).

While Siegmund maintains an image of a relatable leader through small-scale personal appearances and selfies, his campaign has also faced opposition, with protesters using slogans such as “Nazis raus” (Nazis out) during his public events.
